AI video makes it easy to put any face in any clip. That’s the fun of it, and it’s also why a few plain rules matter. These are the ones we follow at Rift, and they hold for any app.
You: anything goes
Put yourself in a dance trend, a rainforest, a painting or a dance you can’t do. It’s your face.
Friends and family: ask first
People like being in the joke when they’re in on it. A quick “can I put you in this?” saves a lot of awkward. Some easy habits:
- Show them the Draft before you Make.
- Let them pick which version gets posted.
- Take it down if they ask.
Kids
If they’re your kids, you decide, with their privacy in mind. If they’re someone else’s, ask a parent, every time.
Strangers, celebrities and public figures: no
Don’t use a real person’s face without their OK, and never to make them say or do something they didn’t. That includes famous people. If you want a star for your page, make an original character once and use it in every video.
People who have passed away
Bringing an old family photo to life is one of the most moving things people make. Keep it with family, and check with the people who were closest to them if the memory is shared.
What Rift does on its side
- Rift is built around you, people who agree, pets, products and characters you make.
- Rift asks after your first video whether it may learn from your videos. The answer is off until you say yes.
- You can delete your account and data in Profile.
When you post
Saying it’s an AI video in the post is simple and honest, and on many platforms it’s expected. It also tends to make the joke land better.
