How to fix glitchy hands, warped bodies and odd motion in AI remakes

Updated · Reviewed by The Rift team

Short answer

Messy motion usually comes from the source clip: fast cuts, crowds, motion blur, hands crossing the body or people overlapping. Pick a steady clip with one or two people, use a full-body photo that matches the pose, and trim to the cleanest few seconds. In Rift, tell Spark, Rift's video agent, which part to keep, then Make. Stop anytime; a stopped Make isn't charged.

Six-finger hands, bent legs and melting spins mostly come from the clip and photo you start with, so the fixes below start there. For the full idea of copying moves from a clip, see AI motion transfer on iPhone.

Common causes and fixes

You see Usual cause Fix
Strange hands Fast hands, hands crossing Clips with hands visible and apart
Stretched body Face-only photo Full-body photo
People merging Overlapping dancers One or two people, apart
Jitter Shaky or blurred clip Steady, sharp source
Warped spin Very fast turns “Just the part before the spin”

Pick the cleanest seconds

Most trends have a clean stretch. Tell Spark: “only the first 6 seconds” or “the part where she walks forward”.

Match the start pose

If the dance starts side-on, use a side-on photo so the start lines up.

In Rift

  1. Share the clip.
  2. Add a full-body photo.
  3. Tell Spark which part to keep.
  4. Check the Draft and tap Make. If something looks off while it’s making, tap Stop; a stopped Make isn’t charged.

Questions people ask

Why are the hands strange?

Fast hand moves and hands crossing the body are hard for any app. Pick clips where hands stay clear.

Why does my body stretch during the dance?

Usually a face-only photo. Use a full-body photo standing like the dancer starts.

Why does it jitter?

Shaky or blurred source clips. Choose steady, sharp ones.

Can I just make it again?

Yes. Change the clip part or the photo first, so the next one differs.
