No app is safe by default. Safety comes from the app’s settings, the rules at home and what gets posted.
What you need
- The app’s App Store listing.
- Ten minutes together to try it.
Step by step
- Read the age rating on the App Store listing.
- Try the app together, from Share or Spark to the Draft and Make.
- Agree on consent: ask before using anyone else’s photo.
- Check the settings: Rift asks after the first video whether it may learn from videos, and it is off until you say yes.
- Know how to delete. Videos go in Library; account and data go in Profile.
Lines to try with Spark
- “Me dancing in my bedroom, fairy lights.”
- “My dog as a pirate captain.”
- “My drawing of a dragon flying over my town.”
- “My bike on a forest trail.”
Tips
- Check what is posted publicly, not only what is made.
- Keep faces of others out unless they agreed.
- Revisit the rules as the teen gets older.
