How to make a group dance with friends who are in different places

Updated · Reviewed by The Rift team

Short answer

Ask each friend for one clear photo of their face, add each as a character in Rift, then share a group dance clip. Spark, Rift's video agent, matches your friends to the dancers and shows a Draft. Check who stands where, tap Make, and you get one dance video of up to 15 seconds with everyone in it.

Add a photo of each friend and share a dance clip, and Spark brings them into one place to dance together, however far apart they live. If everyone is already in one photo, the single group photo guide is quicker, and casting friends in a remake covers other scenes.

What you need

Step by step

  1. Collect the photos. Ask each friend to send one.
  2. Add each person as a character. Pick a name you will remember.
  3. Share the clip into Rift. Tap Share, then Rift.
  4. Say who plays whom. For example, “Ana in the middle, Kofi on the left.”
  5. Make. Check the Draft, tap Make, and the video lands in your Library.

Questions people ask

Do we need to be together to take the photos?

No. Each friend sends you one photo from their own phone and you add them one by one.

Can I choose where everyone dances?

Yes. Tell Spark the place, such as a rooftop or a beach, and check the Draft.

Can I reuse the same friends later?

Yes. Save each person as a character once and pick them again in any later video.

Do my friends need Rift?

No. Only you need the app. Send them the finished video from your Library.

Do I need their permission?

Yes. Ask each friend before you use their photo and before you post.
