How to make a two-person dance video from one photo of the pair

Updated · Reviewed by The Rift team

Short answer

Share a dance clip with two dancers into Rift, then add one photo where you and your partner both face the camera. Spark, Rift's video agent, matches each of you to a dancer, plans the shots and shows a Draft. Tap Make and the pair performs the duet, up to 15 seconds. Rift is an iPhone app.

A duet is hard to film when one of you is busy and the other can’t find the beat. With one good photo of the pair you can skip the rehearsal, and AI motion transfer copies the dancers’ moves onto you. For a bigger crew, see how to make a group dance video from one group photo.

What you need

Step by step

  1. Find a duet. Open a clip where the two dancers stay in view and the camera stays steady.
  2. Share it into Rift. Tap Share, then Rift.
  3. Add the pair photo. Spark looks at the clip and your photo and checks it has each person in the right spot.
  4. Name the places. Say who dances where, in one line.
  5. Make. Check the Draft, tap Make, and find the video in your Library. The price is shown on the Make button before you tap.

Tips

Questions people ask

Does it have to be a photo of both of us together?

One photo of the pair is the simplest. If you only have separate photos, add each person on their own and say who plays which dancer.

Can I choose who dances on the left?

Yes. Tell Spark in one line, for example "Mia on the left, Jo on the right".

What if the clip has three dancers?

Pick a clip with two dancers for the cleanest result. Spark can leave a dancer out if you ask, but a matching clip is easier.

Do we both need to agree?

Yes. Show your partner or friend the Draft before you post, since their face is in it.
