How to make an unboxing video of your product without filming one

Updated · Reviewed by The Rift team

Short answer

Add a photo of your product, and one of its box if you have it, to Rift. Tell Spark the reveal, such as hands lifting the lid on a clean table and the product sliding into view, then check the Draft. Tap Make to get a silent clip of up to 15 seconds in your Library. Rift is an iPhone app.

An unboxing is a small story: the box on the table, the lid, the first look. Buyers like seeing it, and sellers like having it before the first parcel is out. Spark can build the moment from photos of the product and the box.

What you need

Step by step

  1. Add the photos. Open Rift and add the product and the box.
  2. Describe the reveal. Who opens it, where and what they see first.
  3. Check the Draft. Spark shows the shot and keeps your product and box as the subjects.
  4. Make. Tap Make. The price is on the button first.
  5. Save and post. The clip lands in your Library.

Beyond boxes

Gift bags, tubes, parcels, envelopes, a pizza box. If something opens to reveal something, the flow is the same. For more on silent demo clips, see how to make a UGC-style product demo video.

Questions people ask

Do I need a photo of the box?

It helps. Without one, Spark builds a plain box, so add yours if the packaging matters.

Will my packaging design show?

Details that are sharp in your photo carry through. Check the Draft for logo and colour.

Can it show a whole routine?

A video is one shot of up to 15 seconds, so pick the reveal moment.

Can someone talk while unboxing?

Not yet. Talking to camera and speech are not in Rift yet.

Can I use it before the product ships?

Yes, as long as you have a clear photo of the product and box.
