Describe a character or add a few photos, give them one odd trait, and save them as a Rift character. The same face and look then appear in every video you make, up to 15 seconds each.
What you need
- An iPhone with Rift.
- An idea: who they are and one odd thing about them.
- A few photos if the character is based on a real person, a toy or a drawing. Otherwise a description is enough.
Step by step
- Define the character. Tell Spark the look and the trait in a line.
- Add photos if you have them. Three or four from different angles, same person.
- Save as a character. Give them a name you will remember.
- Cast them. Start a new video and say “use Marguerite” and where.
- Make. Tap Make. Repeat with a new scene each week.
Lines to try with Spark
- “Meet Dot, a retired stunt woman in her seventies who always wears a helmet.”
- “A rubber duck mechanic named Gus who is afraid of puddles.”
- “Captain Moss, a mossy old fisherman who only appears in thick fog.”
- “Priya, a nervous astronaut who brings her own sandwiches.”
- “Use Dot in this trend, same moves, in a launderette.”
Tips for a clean result
- One trait, not five. Odd and simple is easier to remember.
- A signature item. A hat, a scarf, a colour. It keeps them recognisable at a glance.
- Same look each time. Describe the outfit once and keep it.
- Rotate the setting, not the person. The comedy is the same character in new places.
- Plan a series. Three scenes in a row show people who they are.
Characters for other uses
A brand mascot, a pet with a personality, an imaginary friend for a children’s story, or a stand-in for yourself if you prefer not to appear. Once saved, they are available in any video.
