How to make a product video for an Etsy listing from one photo

Updated · Reviewed by The Rift team

Short answer

Add one clear photo of your handmade item to Rift, tell Spark the scene, such as the item turning slowly on a wooden table in window light, and check the Draft. Tap Make and you get a short video of up to 15 seconds in your Library, ready to upload to your Etsy listing. No camera setup or editing needed.

One clear photo of your ring, mug, print or bag is enough for Spark to build a short video that shows how the item moves, catches the light and sits in a room.

This guide is for one handmade or small-batch item and one listing. For the general product-ad version, see how to turn a product photo into a video ad.

What you need

Step by step

  1. Add the photo. Open Rift and add the item from your camera roll.
  2. Tell Spark the scene. One setting, one move, one kind of light.
  3. Check the Draft. Spark shows what stays (your item, its colour, its details) and what changes (the set and the camera).
  4. Make. Tap Make. The price is on the button before you tap, and you can Stop anytime.
  5. Save and upload. The video is in your Library. Add it to the listing in Etsy.

Tips for a clean result

Beyond Etsy

The same steps suit a market stall, a craft-fair table or your own shop page. Handmade soap, a knitted hat, a hand-painted sign or a pet bandana all work from a single photo.

Questions people ask

Can I use the video on my listing and in my shop announcements?

What you make is yours to post anywhere. Upload it where the listing or post lets you add a video.

Will the item look like mine?

Spark copies what it sees in the photo, so a sharp photo with the whole item in frame and the real colour gives the closest match.

Can I show the item in someone's hands?

Yes. Ask for a hand holding or turning the item. See the UGC-style demo guide for that shot.

Can I add my shop name or price on the video?

Text over video isn't in the app yet. Your listing carries the title and price.

Can I make a video for each colour of an item?

Yes. Add a photo of each colour and make one video per photo.
