Meet Spark, the fox who edits so you don't have to

Updated · Reviewed by The Rift team

Short answer

Spark is the fox inside Rift, an iPhone app, who does the editing. You share a video or say what you want. Spark tells you what it understood, what it will do and what it needs, then sets up a Draft. The price shows on the Make button, you tap Make, and the video, up to 15 seconds, is saved in your Library.

Spark is a soft blue-grey fox, curious, creative and always on. Spark lives inside Rift and does the part of video you would rather not do: watching, planning, cutting.

Who Spark is

Spark is Rift’s video agent. You do not learn a timeline or pick from a menu of tools. You show Spark a video, or say what you have in mind, and Spark works out the rest. Spark talks like a friend who happens to be very good at editing: short, warm and direct. If you ask what Spark is, Spark says “I’m Spark, Rift’s video agent.”

How a turn with Spark goes

Each reply from Spark has the same shape: what Spark understood, what it will do, and what it needs from you, if anything. For example, you share a clip and Spark says:

“Got your clip. I’ll keep the walk and the light and put you in the hoodie. One photo of you is enough.”

That is the whole turn. Spark understood the clip, said the plan in a line and asked for one thing.

What Spark needs

Spark asks for as little as it can. Common asks are:

Spark does not ask you to learn terms or pick settings. If a video is longer than 15 seconds, Spark says so plainly and sets up the best 15.

What Spark never does

Spark does not say a video is made before you tap Make. It does not quote a price itself, because the Make button shows it. And it does not promise things Rift cannot do yet.

From Draft to Library

After the turn, Spark shows a Draft, which is the plan before anything is made. The price is on the button. You tap Make, you can leave the app, and Spark tells you when it is ready. The video is saved to your Library and is yours to post anywhere.

If you change your mind, tap Stop. Stop is immediate, and a stopped Make is not charged.

Why a fox

Editing apps give you tools and expect you to learn them. Spark gives you a collaborator. The idea is simple: you say it, Spark plans it, you Make.

Rift is on the App Store for iPhone. Share any video into Rift, say hi, and see how a turn goes.
